Check the schedule in advance
Our full schedule is available, including some great new additions to our Celebration of 50 Years of Hip-Hop session at 6:00 pm: legendary hip-hop icons Big Daddy Kane and Easy Mo Bee! Check the schedule and make sure you've got the best seats for your most-anticipated panels.
Bring your ID
The Avalon requires that we check IDs at the door, so make sure to bring yours! All ages are welcome at the ASCAP Experience – but if you’re 21 or over, you’ll get a special wristband that allows you to imbibe adult beverages. If you’re into that kind of thing.
Get to the Avalon early
We’ve got a sold-out event, and eeeeeveryone needs to go through a security check. Come early to avoid the line and get the best seats! Doors open at 10am.
🎶 QR the sunshine of my life… 🎶
For a speedier check-in, have your unique QR code ready when you arrive (we sent it to you via email when you registered). We can scan it straight from your mobile device, but a printed copy works, too.
Pack light
There’s no coat check or luggage storage at the Avalon, so bring just what you need. (Hopefully that doesn’t include your tuba)
Leave your car at home
Avalon Hollywood is easy to access via public transportation. The bus and the Metro Red Line both stop right around the corner at the Hollywood / Vine station - plan your trip at metro.net. Prefer to rideshare? Have your Lyft or Uber driver drop you off right on Vine.
…or ignore our advice and park at the Avalon
Per Avalon Hollywood’s website, “AVALON does not have designated on-site parking. However, you can reserve nearby parking in advance or on demand through our official parking partner, Pavemint. Download Pavemint on the App Store or Google Play store, or search for parking online by date and time.”
If you have a special situation and require on-site parking at the Avalon, please email us at experience@ascap.com as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
Badges? We don’t need no stinkin’ badges! (actually, you do)
After you check in, your first order of business is to pick up your badge inside the Avalon. Remember, your badge is the only way to access the everflowing fountain of knowledge and positivity that is the ASCAP Experience. Take good care of it and keep it with you throughout the day – especially if you leave the Avalon during a break.
Get the lay of the land
The ASCAP Experience is sold out, and the venue will be packed the whole day. Once you get inside, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the place. Where’s the bathroom? Where can I get water? How do I get to the balcony? These are all fine questions, and you can answer them all just by walking around!
Stock up on swag - and put it in a bag
If you’ve got merch to give out, the Experience is the perfect place to do it. We’ll even give you a swank tote to haul it around in after you’ve checked in.
Get to know your panelists
Our Experience panelists have some crazy credits and incredible backstories. Head to ascapexperience.com/panelists so you know what to ask them during the Q&A session.
Who's in charge?
The Experience starts early and ends late, so make sure your phone battery is at 100%, and bring a portable charger for some extra juice later in the day. The Avalon does have electrical outlets, but you don’t want to be that person.
Well, well, well.
The renewed inspiration you’ll pick up at the Experience is good for the mind, body and soul. If you want even more of a boost to your wellbeing, check out some of the editorial articles from our ASCAP Wellness Program, geared specifically for music creators. May we recommend the one on how to deal with criticism, or how to boost your energy, or how to improve your self confidence?
Share your ASCAP Experience…experience with #ascapexperience
Get those thumbs ready! We’ll have a selfie station to help bring out your inner influencer. Plus, every square foot of the Avalon will be full of Instagrammable sights and sounds; every panel will be full of Tweetable soundbytes and TikTokable tidbits. Take a picture with a new collaborator friend (or just yourself) and share it all with your followers! Just don’t forget to tag @ascap and #ascapexperience.
Write it down
The info flies fast ‘n furious at the Experience, and even if you’ve got the memory of an elephant, we recommend transcribing the good stuff as it happens. If you’re an old-fashioned pencil ‘n paper kind of person, the ASCAP notebook in your registration bag should help. More of a visual learner? We’ll post on-demand video versions of some of the sessions later this year.
Re: Spect
Our panelists have donated their time to help out your career. Show them your appreciation by silencing your phone during the panel, and avoid mobbing them afterwards.
Learn your rights
The ASCAP Experience is a great place to bring out the music advocate in you. Don’t miss our Intelligently Navigating Artificial Intelligence panel, where you’ll hear about all the ways you can help to preserve your rights as a music creator, even as AI becomes more widespread.
Help us make the Experience Q&As as helpful as possible
Before you step up to the mic during a Q&A session, think about whether your question will benefit everyone in the room, or just you. Our Q&As are meant to help all of our attendees - they’re not the place for pitching your music, offering your services or telling your life story. That’s what networking time is for! Speaking of which...
Mix. Mingle. Schmooze.
This is the first in-person ASCAP Experience in four years, so make the most of it and meet people! We’ve built in pockets of free time to the schedule, so you can get your networking on.
Not the naturally outgoing type? Check out these pointers from networking guru Dan Kimpel, taken from his master session at the 2009 ASCAP Experience.
Catch some live music
What would a music conference be without live music? You can hear hit songs from the people who wrote ‘em at The Writers Jam. You are also more than welcome to harmonize in the restrooms, jam in the hallways, or start a spontaneous freestyle circle outside (wouldn’t be the first time).
Got an ASCAP question?
The Experience is a great place to ask us your burning questions about how to properly register your music, how to make the most of your membership, etc. Head on over to The ASCAP Membership Station to chat with a real, live ASCAP employee. We’re here for you!
Conserve your energy
You’ll be out and about for many hours at a time. Take it all in, but pace yourself! There’s plenty of places around the venue to rest and relax. And speaking of which...
Bon appetit!
You came to the Experience because you’re hungry for knowledge, but don’t forget about actual food! There’s a lunch break and evening networking break built into the schedule, and some light bites will be available at the Avalon during both. You’re also welcome to venture outside – there are a ton of great eateries within easy walking distance, from top-notch burgers (Shake Shack) to authentic Chinese food (Northern Cafe), breakfast and brunch eats (The Breakfast Club) to superb middle eastern (Hollywood Shawarma) and world-famous chicken & waffles (Roscoe’s), and everything in between.
While you’re out and about…
Visit the world-famous Amoeba Music – and get 10% off
The kind folks at Amoeba Music have generously offered a 10% discount coupon for ASCAP Experience attendees, which you can find pre-loaded into your official tote bag! This is truly one of the world’s great record stores, and it’s literally a block away from the Avalon, at Hollywood & Argyle. Give ‘em a visit and tell them that ASCAP sent ya.
